House of Chai - Featured artist of the month
September 2007 - Kevin Dalton

Kevin Dalton, Mr. Delicious, in the black shirt.

I met Kevin Dalton, my fellow baked macaroni and cheese enthusiast, in the first class I ever taught at The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. I was blown away by the talent and passion of this young wild man when he was a freshman, and am continually excited and inspired by his unlimited energy and enthusiasm.

He seems to tap into the powers of the universe, fueling his inexhaustible appetite for art and life. In college, it was not uncommon to find Kevin dancing with furniture or doing strange voodoo induced gyrations around the room. He’s a man possessed with an uncontrollable hunger like Galactus.

One of my favorite examples of this was a day at school when some of the students and I were in our animation lab and found a whole chocolate cake on a table. Not knowing to whom it belonged, we left it there and went to work in an adjacent room. Kevin walked in several minutes with a grin stretching from ear to ear and with a tremendous sense of contentment exclaimed “Oh man, I just found a cake. It was so good; I ate like half of it!” Hahahaha, I don’t condone taking things that belong to others, but this was a truly beautiful moment in my life. Hahahaha... Mister Delicious, getting nutritious!

Kevin went on to study for several years in Savannah and I was very happy to learn that he recently moved to California and is currently working on South Park.

I hold my macaroni dish high with Michigan-shaped oven mitts in honor of Kevin Dalton for the month of September. If you want a take out order of his artwork, he has a mouth-watering sketchbook available for home delivery. And if you’re up for a tasty buffet of more delicious imagery, please check out his website at kevindalton.com. But beware, you better show up hungry!
